Wolves Dominate At Home Meet To Open Season

Wolf Point’s boys started their cross-country season in dominating fashion as the Wolves accounted for the top three places and four of the top five finishes at the Wolf Point Invitational on Friday, Aug. 27.
Peyton Summers, a sophomore, led the way with a meet winning time of 17:57.26.
After the race, Summers said his goal was to be under 19 minutes so he was surprised to run under 18 minutes. He noted each of the team members accounted for better times than they anticipated.
“We were all doubting ourselves,” Summers said.
Ethan Blount, a senior, finished second at 18:22.40. Kholby Spotted Wolf, a junior, placed third at 18:26.57.
“Amazingly,” Blount said of the Wolves earning the top three spots.
After Richey/Lambert’s Matthew Ellerton placed fourth at 19:03.20, Wolf Point’s junior Kelby Bauer finished fifth with a time of 19:31.22.
After playing football last year, Bauer has returned to the sport of cross country.
“It was a good first meet,” he said. “As the race went on, I got more positive.”
After placing fourth at the Class B state meet last year, the Wolves are hungry for a state trophy this time around.
“We have the tools, we can do it,” Blount said.
On the girls’ side, Wolf Point’s junior Piper Ruffing finished eighth with a time of 24:18.48.
Plentywood’s junior Annie Kaul earned top honors with a time of 19:51.37.
The Wolves will compete at the Poplar Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 4.
