Mobile Clinic Arrives In Area

A new mobile clinic in Fort Peck has the potential to be a great new asset in the area.

Julian Shields, tribal health director, said the mobile clinic features two exam rooms and a hydraulic lift to make it handicapped accessible. The $560,000 purchase was made using CARES funds as well as a grant from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The mobile clinic arrived in Poplar on Monday, July 12. Indian Health Services will staff the vehicle at least for now.

One of the primary goals of the unit will be to make vaccinations more accessible in the area.

“We plan to take the clinic to Frazer, Fort Kipp, Oswego, all the communities,” Shields said of conducting vaccination clinics. “We want go get the vaccination rates higher.”

He added that the mobile clinic will also be available at the pow-wows.

“We need to get all of our people vaccinated,” Shields said. “Some don’t have vehicles, so we’re gong to each community. A lot are fully vaccinated, but some are still being hesitant.”

In the future, the mobile clinic might be used for a variety of other health care reasons.

“We do plan to utilize it for other clinics,” Shields said.
