Baseball Program Keeps Moving Forward

After a few visiting American Legion baseball players complained about Wolf Point’s baseball facility on a social media video, the Wolf Point community is uniting to commit to improving the complex.

Wolf Point Mayor Chris Dschaak, a strong supporter of baseball, began a GoFund-Me.com page for Wolf Point Yellow Jacket’s Baseball on Facebook. As of Monday afternoon, more than $2,500 was raised through donations.

Jaroon Boysun, president of Wolf Point’s baseball board, says the donations have come from alumni as well as community members. People and organizations have also volunteer for community service type projects, he said.

“It’s not just money. It’s getting people together to fix things,” Boysun said.

He noted the baseball organization for American Legion and Babe Ruth is a private organization. The city is supportive in ways such as recently helping repair a water break.

“It’s been super tight,” Boysun said. “If anything came from there, it’s that people stepped up, which is great.”

The baseball board was scheduled to meet on Tuesday night, June 29, to prioritize improvement projects. Ares that might be addressed are the dugouts and field material. He said a lot of volunteers helped prepare the field this past spring.

“Things get done. It just takes time,” Boysun said.

The program has made a great deal of progress in the past few years. Wolf Point didn’t have an American Legion team for many years and now have a full schedule. The eight-member board has come together in just the last few years.

“We’re still in the process of building up,” Boysun said. “I think we’re heading in the right direction.”
