The Wolves are coming!

Three standout track athletes from Wolf Point High School signed letters of intent on Friday, June 11, to compete for Dickinson State University.

Zander Ackerman, Nick Page and Kahalo Toves each enjoyed a strong amount of success during their high school careers in Wolf Point.

“I’m excited to give them the opportunity to compete,” Dickinson’s track coach Shane Wittkopp said. “I think they can all enjoy success.”

Wolf Point’s assistant track coach John Wetsit is excited about the additions to Dickinson’s program.

“I’m thrill to see them going to the same place to continue the camaraderie we’ve built here during the years,” Wetsit said.

He added, “They all have the skill sets to find success at the collegiate level. Their work ethic will carry them the farthest.”

Ackerman, who will also compete in cross country for the Blue Hawks, earned the Class B state cross country championship as a senior. He ran to the state track titles in the 1600 and 3200 and placed second in the 800. He holds the school record in the 800, 1600 and 3200.

“I’m excited to learn and to adapt,” Ackerman said. “I know a lot of people there. I have a lot of support.”

Page, a 2020 graduate of Wolf Point High School, placed third at the state meet in the 800 as a junior.

He has received his associate degree in science and arts from Fort Peck Community College. He earned valedictorian honors at Fort Peck Community College.

Page said Toves and Ackerman urged him to attend Dickinson State University.

“They really wanted me to go, and I missed track,” Page said. “I’ve always wanted to run.”

Toves earned second place at the divisional meet in the long jump and finished third in the 200-meter dash. He took first in the long jump and second in the 200 at the district meet. He was also a valuable member of Wolf Point’s relay teams.

“It’s close to home and it’s a very good school,” Toves said of Dickinson.

The boys join Wolf Point’s Jewel Olson, who signed her letter of intent for Dickinson this spring. Olson won titles in the 200 and 400 at the Class B state meet.

“I can’t believe how much she came on since Top 10,” Wittkopp said of Olson. “She’s exceeded my expectations.”
