The Wolf Point Yellow Jackets got their bats going to break open a close game for a 14-2 girls’ softball victory over Culbertson on Tuesday, June 1.

Wolf Point trailed by a 2-1 margin entering the bottom of the third before J’Elle Garfield scored on a double by Katelyn MacDonald. The Yellow Jackets grabbed a 3-2 lead when MacDonald crossed the plate on a wild pitch.

Mahola Macdonald connected for a single to bring home Sierra Hamilton in the bottom of the fourth for a 4-2 advantage.

The Yellowjackets broke the game away in the fifth with four runs as K. Mac-Donald, Jaylee Azure, Hamilton and Garfield crossed the plate. Hitting singles in the frame were K. MacDonald, J. Azure, Hamilton, Garfield, M. Macdonald and Jerzey Azure.

Wolf Point added six more runs in the bottom of the sixth. A three-RBI triple by K. MacDonald highlighted the frame for the Yellow Jackets.

M. Macdonald pitched a fine game for the Yellow Jackets. She retired Culbertson in order during both the fourth and fifth innings. A double play started by shortstop Hamyanie Campbell ended the sixth inning.

Culbertson gained a 1-0 lead in the top of the first when Destiny Thompson singled and scored.

Wolf Point’s Hamilton doubled and later crossed the plate for a 1-1 deadlock in the second.

Culbertson earned a 2-1 lead in the top of the third when a single by Anissa Bengochea knocked home Thompson.

In the minor league game, Culbertson gained control in the bottom of the third inning en route to a 12-2 victory over the Swap Shop of Wolf Point. Softball teams compete each Tuesday night during the season.
