Area Gymnasts Place During State Competition
The Montana Gymnastics State Championships 2021 was held at the Belgrade High School Special Events Center on March 26-28. Eastern Montana Gymnastics of Circle competed in two of the eleven sessions and had eighteen gymnasts out of the 536 gymnasts that attended.
The EMG Gold Team placed in seventh place, out of the 11 Gold teams, on Saturday, March 27. The competition was close with less than a point between the second-place team and the EMG team. Gold gymnast Lina Smith of Richey led her team and was tied for an impressive 11th place, out of all 71 gymnasts in the two Gold sessions, while Jada Sportsman of Glendive was in 26th place. Sportsman also earned first place on the uneven bars in her age group with a 9.45 score and was tied for first place on vault.
Earning second-place finishes in their age groups were Smith and Sportsman for their all-around scores; Lina, Ava Hove of Circle and Sage Sportsman of Glendive for balance beam; and Jill Deserly of Wolf Point for uneven bars. Earning third places were Lily Beery of Circle for uneven bars, Aspen Boje of Glendive for floor and Kendra Linder of Glendive with a tie on balance beam. Earning a tie for second place on vault was Silver gymnast Emma Hove of Circle.
In the tough Senior B age group of seven Gold gymnasts, Smith was fifth on vault and fourth on floor, besides her second place all-around score and her second-place 9.4 score on beam. Deserly and Sage Sportsman competed in the Senior C age group of nine gymnasts, earning their second places on bars and beam, respectively. Deserly was also fourth on beam and fifth on both vault and allaround.
Jada Sportsman, Ava Hove, Kate Nasner of Wolf Point, Lily Beery and Ella Beery of Circle competed in the junior age group of nine Gold gymnasts. Besides her first places on vault and bars and her second for all-around, Jada Sportsman was fourth on floor. Ava Hove had sixth places on bars and for her all-around score, besides her second on beam. Nasner was tied for fourth on beam, tied for sixth for all-around and was sixth on floor. Lily Beery was sixth on beam and tied for sixth on vault, besides her third on bars. Ella Beery, in only her second Gold meet, had her best finish on floor.
In the Gold Junior B age group, out of nine gymnasts, Aspen Boje and Kendra Linder competed. Besides their third-place finishes on floor and beam, respectively, Boje was fifth for her all-around and bars and was sixth on beam, while Linder finished in fifth place for vault and sixth for her all-around.
On Sunday, March 28, Abbey Gibbs of Circle led the EMG team in the first session of the Silver competition and placed fourth on beam, sixth for all-around, tied for sixth on bars and was seventh on vault. Her sister Ali had her best placing on floor. Both competed in the Senior age group of 10 gymnasts.
Emma Hove and Justine Massar of Circle competed in the Child age group of eight gymnasts. Besides Emma Hove’s tie for second on vault, she was sixth on bars and beam while Justine was fifth on floor.
Kynlee Houck of Glendive and Nomi Deserly of Wolf Point competed in the Junior B age group of 10 gymnasts. Houck was fifth on floor and Nomi Deserly earned seventh place on vault.
DaRae Deserly of Wolf Point competed in the Junior C age group of nine gymnasts and earned a tie for fourth place on beam, while Ashlynn Johannessen of Wolf Point competed in the Junior A age group of nine gymnasts and was fifth on floor.
EMG’s Silver gymnast Aralyn Jensen of Circle was unable to attend due to illness.
