Bike Shop Reopens For Season Bike Shop Reopens For Season

The Spirit of Life Community Bike Shop in Wolf Point is open for the season. Pastor Greg Holler-Dinsmore runs the shop. He told the Northern Plains Independent that he will now be keeping regular spring and summer hours: Thursday-Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The shop was open informally throughout the winter. Holler-Dinsmore said he has been refurbishing and building low cost bikes for all ages and abilities.

Mechanics and maintenance classes will be offered pending conditions related to the pandemic. Additionally, a mountain bike course will teach youth ages 7-15 the finer points of riding all-terrain equipment. Holler-Dinsmore said he and local volunteers are working to make the Fort Peck Reservation the region’s first bicycle friendly reservation. Along with selling bikes, the shop has historically offered guided rides, access to affordable bikes, parts and gear and mechanical knowhow.

The shop’s mission is to help young people keep their own bikes rolling while developing the skills to find jobs at bike shops elsewhere, off the reservation.

Holler-Dinsmore has split his time between jobs ministering, teaching psychology at Fort Peck Community College and nursing his dream of developing a local cycling community since moving to the area in the 1980s. Today, he is retired, but fills in as a visiting pastor in the area when needed.
