Wolf Point’s Track Team Features Strong Group Of Upper Classmen
With upperclassmen leading the way, Wolf Point is looking for a strong track season this year.
“We have a great group of upperclassmen,” Coach RC Page said about the Wolves.
Leading the pack for the seniors are Zander Ackerman and Jewel Olson, who each placed at the Class B state track meet as sophomores. Ackerman finished second in the 3200 during 2019. Olson took third in the 400-meter dash and was part of Wolf Point’s fifth-place 400-meter relay team. There wasn’t a track season last year because of COVID restrictions.
Other seniors who are expected to have strong campaigns include Austin Wilson in sprints and relays, Kaholo Toves in jumps, sprints and relays, Emily Kinzie in throws, August Spotted Wolf in distance runs and Roberto Birdsbill in throws.
The 31-member squad includes a large group of freshmen.
The amount of sophomores on the team is lower than normal.
Page is looking forward to athletes stepping up to be leaders by working hard and doing the right things. The Wolves have good attitudes and are looking to improve.
The team’s goals for its athletes include communication, being coachable, learning to compete and finishing what they started.
Wolf Point opens its season in Glasgow on Thursday, April 1.
The district meet will take place in Wolf Point on May 15, and the divisional meet is scheduled in Glasgow on May 22. The Class C state track meet is scheduled for May 28-29 in Laurel.
