Some Northside Elementary School’s teachers and staff made a sacrifice the afternoon of Thursday, March 18. They had their faces covered with whipped cream pies in order to raise funds to support students.

Organizers believe this is the seventh year of the fundraiser. This year, $232 was raised. The funds will be utilized to pay for gift cards to reward students for positive behavior or doing well on standardized tests.

Tickets cost 25 cents each. Thomas Olsen was the top vote receiver with 400 tickets.

The health/physical education teacher is traditionally first on the list in the fundraiser.

“Probably because I make them run in PE,” Olsen said of the reason.

Custodian Mr. Emar Eymard was second with 220 tickets. Sixth-grade teacher Diane Bailey was third with 200 tickets. Also in the top five were fifth-grade teacher Kayla Larson and English/ language arts teacher Brandi Burshia. Due to a late surge in ticket sales, Northside Principal Georgie Gourneau also had pies thrown in her face.

Organizers said that because of the success of the fundraiser, similar events were held at Southside Elementary School and the junior high school this year.
