Wolf Point Girls Knock Off Baker Team, 43-32

Wolf Point’s girls’ basketball squad led wire-to-wire and defeated Baker, 43-32, at home on Friday, Feb. 5.

Josie Kolstad had the hot hand as the Wolves earned a 14-5 during the first quarter of action.

A 16-footer by Kolstad and two free throws by Hamyanie Campbell resulted in a quick 4-0 advantage.

After Baker’s Peyton Janeway connected on a three-pointer, Kolstad fired in a baseline shot and a three-pointer and Jodi Haug hit a baseline shot for an 11-3 lead.

Another three-pointer by Kolstad, a 5-7 junior, ended the quarter with Wolf Point ahead by a 14-5 margin.

It was J’Elle Garfield’s turn to have a hot hand in the second quarter. The 5-9 sophomore accounted for six points during the first two minutes of the second quarter to increase the Wolves’ lead to 20-8.

After the Spartans fought back to 20-11, the Wolves responded with the next four points on a 14-footer by Garfield and two free throws by Campbell. Wolf Point went on to lead by a 26-14 half-time margin.

Baker ended the third quarter with nine of the last 11 points to pull to 30-25.

Ahead 30-26, the Wolves responded with three points each by Sierra Hamilton and Campbell, a free throw by Jaylee Azure and a basket by Garfield off a pass from Kolstad for a 39-26 advantage with 2:24 left.

Top scorers for the Wolves were Garfield with 15 and Kolstad with 12 points.

Also scoring were Campbell with eight, Hamilton with five, Houg with two and Azure with one.

Leading Baker were Janeway with 16 and Anika Ploeger with 10 points.
