Consecutive three-pointers to open the fourth quarter provided a great spark as Wolf Point’s boys’ basketball team downed Baker, 63-52, at home on Friday, Feb. 5.

“I was pleased with our effort,” Wolf Point Coach Troy Blount said. “We responded in the fourth quarter for crunch time.”

The victory avenged a defeat in Baker earlier this season.

“Game by game, we’re improving,” Blount said.

Ahead 40-35 entering the fourth quarter, the Wolves increased their lead to 46-35 when Kraven Silk and Antone Manning hit three-pointers to open the fourth quarter.

After Baker battled back to 48-41, Wolf Point answered with the next seven points on two baskets by Manning and a three-pointer from way out by Zander Ackerman.

The Spartans kept things close with the next eight points for a 55-49 game with 1:38 remaining.

Six free throws by Ackerman and two free tosses by Manning led the Wolves down the stretch.

“We actually played well with the lead,” Blount said.

Ackerman led the Wolves with 26 points. Manning finished with 18 and Silk scored 11 points.

Also scoring were Corey Martell with three, Kelby Bauer with three and Jaxon Azure with two.

Leading Baker were Logan Graham with 19 and Konnor Flint with 12 points.

Wolf Point took a 14-12 advantage in the first quarter but trailed 19-16 a couple of minutes into the second quarter. Nine straight points, including five by Ackerman, produced a 25-19 lead.

The Wolves enjoyed a 30-27 half-time advantage.

After Baker gained a 35-32 lead in the third quarter, Wolf Point ran of the last eight points of the period on six points by Ackerman and a basket by Manning.
