Wolf Point’s boys basketball team put together an outstanding effort, but the game was decided in the final minutes as Glasgow edged the Wolves, 55-45, on Friday, Jan. 29.

The Wolves trailed by only a 44-43 margin entering the conference contest’s final three minutes of play.

“We came up short, but I saw signs of improvement,” Wolf Point Coach Troy Blount said. “I’m having players contribute more.” Wolf Point’s full-court pressure defense created 27 turnovers in the game. “I think we’re getting better, improving,” Blount said.

The Wolves trailed 40-39 entering the fourth quarter and then 42-39, but a tip-in by Antone Manning cut the gap to 42-41 with 4:54 left. After two free throws by the Scotties, Manning hit two free tosses for a 44-43 game with 3:05 remaining.

Glasgow then took control as two baskets each by Trevor Klind and Keigan Skolrud, including a dunk, increased the margin to 52-43 with 1:11 remaining.

Top scorers for the Wolves were Manning with 15 and Kraven Silk with 12 points. Also scoring were Kelby Bauer with seven, Zander Ackerman with six, Corey Martell with four and Ethan Blount with one.

Skolrud led the Scotties with 22 points. Klind and Bergen Miller added 10 each.

With a full-court pressure creating havoc, the Wolves accounted for the game’s first 10 points. Three-pointers by Ackerman and Bauer highlighted the outburst. Glasgow cut the gap to 13-9 at the end of the quarter.

Ahead 18-15, the Wolves struck for six straight points on two hoops by Manning and a baseline shot by Silk.

The Scotties accounted for the last 12 points of the half to move ahead 27-24. Glasgow led by as many as four points in the third quarter, but a steal and layup by Martell along with free throws by Manning tied the score at 36-36.

After four points by the Scotties, Silk fired in a three-pointer to pull the Wolves to 40-39 to end the quarter.

The Wolves will host Baker Friday and travel to Poplar Saturday.
