Wolf Point’s girls’ basketball squad suffered from a poor start and lost at Glasgow, 55-32, on Friday, Jan. 29.

The Scotties jumped out to a 19-2 advantage during the first quarter.

“It was disappointing,” Wolf Point Coach Jon Kolstad said.

Shooting was a struggle for the Wolves. “We took care of the ball OK,” Kolstad said.

The three-point shooting of Alexys Mann and Blaire Westby helped the Scotties take a 10-0 lead. Six straight points by Daley Aune put the margin at 16-0. Abrianna Nielsen connected from three-point range for a 19-0 spread.

Wolf Point got on the scoreboard when J’Elle Garfield drove in for a hoop with four seconds remaining in the first quarter.

Glasgow struck for seven of the first nine points of the second quarter. The Wolves accounted for the last four points of the half on an inside shot by Garfield and a drive by Hamyanie Campbell for a 26-8 margin.

Despite the deficit, the Wolves kept fighting back in the third quarter. A pair of three-pointers by Jaylee Azure pulled the Wolves to 30-14.

The Wolves received offensive sparks by Campbell, Garfield and Sierra Hamilton in the third quarter to trail 41-23 at the end of the period.

Glasgow struck for eight of the first 10 points of the fourth quarter.

Garfield led the Wolves with 10 points. Also scoring were Azure with seven, Campbell with six, Hamilton with six, Hailey Nelson with two and Katlyn Macdonald with one.

Leading Glasgow were Aune with 14, Tyann Graham with 11 and Riley Noser with 10.

Glasgow shot 28 freethrows compared to Wolf Point’s six tries.

The Wolves will host Baker on Friday and travel to Poplar on Saturday.
