The Wolf Point School board held two meetings Jan. 5 and 11. The first meeting covered resignations, hires and rehires proposed by the district.

At the meeting, Claine Raining Bird resigned from his position as kitchen staff. Art teacher Vivian Schultz resigned from her role with Title I Tutoring.

Superintendent Loverty Erickson recommended that the board terminate the Open Road Educational Consultant Agreement with Sarah Chambers. She then recommended Chambers for hire as administrator of curriculum and instruction. The board voted to approve rehiring Chambers.

Jacqueline Harada and Arielle Anne Umphreys were approved for hire as substitute teachers.

At the Jan. 11 board meeting, a number of regular and extracurricular hires were approved and a grievance regarding the status of staff leave and sick leave was considered during lengthy executive session.

An impact stipend of $500 was approved for all staff members due to complications from the pandemic. Jason Brock resigned as high school assistant track coach and Kennett Steele resigned as Southside principal.

Trinity Whitmus was approved for hire as a teacher. Anthony Red Cloud was approved for head football coach at the high school. Eric Peterson was approved for assistant track coach at the high school and Joseph Raining Bird and Nick Page were approved for hire as game workers.

Reports were delivered by principals Georgie Gourneau, Greg Gourneau and Kim Hanks, activities director Cody Larson, facilities director Shane Reed and Superintendent Erickson. Hanks reported that attendance at the high school is at 89.9 percent, with an enrollment of 226 students. Erickson recommended that parents register early if returning from optout status. The registration deadline is Jan. 18.

The board approved the purchase of a lunch van/ SPED bus at a cost of approximately $67,000. The vehicle will be paid for with CARES Act funds.

Dates for 2021 EPI Yellowstone credit recovery trips were approved. Students will travel April 8-12 and June 7-11.

The board went into executive session for a portion of the meeting to discuss a grievance regarding unclear language about staff leave and sick leave policies. After returning, the board voted to deny the grievance.

Minutes were approved for the Dec. 14 and Jan. 5 meetings. Warrant registers and claims against the district were also approved.

The next regular board meetings will be held Feb. 8 and March 8.
