Wolf Point’s boys’ basketball squad put together a decent showing and gained much experience in the season-opening 57-46 loss against Dodson on Saturday, Jan. 2.

A three-pointer by Zander Ackerman put the Wolves ahead by a 30-29 margin at intermission.

The Wolves used a variety of line-ups in the second half as Coach Troy Blount got a good look at all his players in preparation for the rest of the season.

The hot shooting of Jeremiah Benson put the Coyotes ahead 38-32 midway into the third quarter.

Wolf Point battled back to 40-36 on two baskets by senior Antonie Manning. Dodson held on for a 42-37 lead at the end of the period.

Dodson accounted for the first nine points of the fourth quarter to gain a 51-37 advantage. Zarek Jones scored six of those points.

The scoring of Manning and Kravon Silk led the Wolves back to within 10 points. The Coyotes went on to earn the 11-point non-conference victory., Wolf Point’s top scorers were Manning with 13 and Corey Martell with nine points.

Also scoring were Ackerman with six, Jaxon Azure with five, Silk with four, Shastin Damon with four, Hunter Rainingbird with two and Kelby Bauer with one.

Dodson’s top scorers were Jones with 23 and Julian Benson with 13 points.

After the Coyotes scored the game’s first seven points, Dodson went on to gain a 21-9 lead and was ahead 23-13 at the end of the opening quarter.

Wolf Point responded with the first 10 points of the second quarter including three points by Manning and a drive by Silk. A three-pointer by Azure pulled the Wolves to 23-21. A 16-footer by Manning tied the game at 23-23.

After Dodson grabbed a 29-25 lead, the Wolves struck for the last five points of the half on a steal and drive by Manning along with a three-pointer by Ackerman.

The Wolves will travel to Baker on Friday, Jan. 8, and to Harlem on Saturday, Jan. 9
