Wolf Point’s girls’ basketball squad used full-court pressure to gain a 48-18 halftime lead and defeated Dodson, 66-43, at home on Saturday, Jan. 2.

“We did a lot of good things,” Wolf Point coach Jon Kolstad said. “We had good team work, good hustle and played fun basketball.”

The coach was pleased that the Wolves created a lot of turnovers, but he noted they also committed a high amount of turnovers.

“Forty-eight points in a half is impressive in a girls’ game,” Kolstad said. “Our goal was to get five in double-digits, and we had four with double-digits.”

Wolf Point’s full-court pressure frustrated the Coyotes in the first quarter as the Wolves gained a 22-10 lead. Jaylee Azure scored six points in the quarter while Hamyanie Campbell and J’Elle Garfield added four points each.

Ahead 24-15 in the second quarter, the Wolves ran off the next 18 points. Starting the streak were six points by Garfield and two free throws by Josie Kolstad for a 32-15 lead. A basket by Jodi Houg and a free throw by Kolstad put the margin at 35-15. Azure then connected from threepoint range for a 23-point advantage.

Baskets by Sierra Hamilton and Kolstad put the score at 42-15.

A drive by Garfield ended the half with Wolf Point ahead by a 48-18 margin.

Wolf Point led by a 54-36 after three quarters of play.

Garfield was Wolf Point’s top scorer with 20 points. Also reaching double figures were Kolstad with 11, Campbell and Azure with 10. Also scoring were Hamilton with six, Houg with four, Hailey Nelson with three and Haidyn Raining Bird with two. Top scorers for the Coyotes were Kataya Kill Eagle with 18 points and Melony Fetter with 14 points.
