Poplar’s Girls Earn Victory Over Frazer Team
Poplar’s girls’ basketball squad opened its season on a strong note as the Indians knocked off Frazer, 59-9, at home on Saturday, Jan. 2.
After leading 10-4 at the end of the first quarter, Poplar gained a 21-4 half-time advantage.
“We will make a few changes,” Poplar Coach Teri Christian said after the win. “You can do it all you want in practice, but the game setting is a little bit different.”
Poplar enjoyed a 38-7 lead after three quarters.
Top scorers for the Indians included Macey Dionne with 29 points and Keandra Martell with 18 points.
“We picked up a lot of assists,” Christian said. “They really dished off the ball well.” Frazer Coach Myron Jackson said the Bearcubs were short-handed, but he was proud of the team’s effort.
Poplar’s girls will travel to Sidney on Thursday Jan. 7, and to Fairview on Friday, Jan. 8.
