Wolf Point’s girls’ basketbal coach Jon Kolstad has mostly liked what he has seen since the Wolves began practicing on Dec. 7.

“I have great young ladies and they will do great things,” Kolstad said.

The Wolves will open their season at home against Dodson on Saturday, Jan. 2 “I like their attitudes,” Kolstad said of his players. “They are a good bunch of kids.”

The squad is still working on many areas where improvement is needed.

“I see everything that we aren’t good at,” Kolstad said. “We’re working on everything, baby steps.”

The Wolves began practice on Dec. 7, under the direction of Coach Kolstad. He was born and raised in Wolf Point, and he now lives in Glasgow.

Kolstad’s career includes about 20 years coaching basketball and baseball. He coached at the high school level in Glasgow.

“They are good kids, and it’s a good community,” Kolstad said of Wolf Point. “I love coaching. I’m looking forward to it.” The Wolves lost a few seniors, but they have many returning players from last season’s team that placed sixth at the divisional tournament.

“We also have a strong freshman group coming up,” Kolstad said.

The returning players include J’Elle Garfield, a sophomore, who earned All-Conference second team honors last season. Other starters back include junior Hamyanie Campbell and junior Josie Kolstad.

“We don’t have a lot of height, but we have a bunch of athletic kids,” Coach Kolstad said. “We have good ability and attitudes.”

Assistant coaches are Demi Henderson and Jerome Azure. “I think the girls are going to be real coachable,” Coach Kolstad said. “I think it’s going to be a real positive season.”
