Last season was a struggle for Frazer, but the Bearcubs expect much more success this boys’ basketball season.

“We will be pretty good this year,” Frazer coach Myron Jackson said.

Returning starters for the Bearcubs are John Hotomanie, Jonathan Jackson, Keein Ackerman and Blue Fettig.

“We’re short of numbers, but we have the same amount as last year,” Coach Jackson said.

Other players in the program include Tory Jackson, Ty Fourstar, Joseph Beston, Austin TalksDifferent and Anthony Jackson. “We will be pretty strong on the boys’ side,” Coach Jackson said. “Some of them have been playing together since eighth grade.”

Frazer didn’t win a game last year but strides were made throughout the campaign.

“There were a lot of positives,” the coach noted. “But we were down to six or seven players last year.”

The Bearcubs feature a good amount of offensive skills.

“They can shoot,” Coach Jackson said. “Ball handling is a strong point.”

A lack of depth is a concern due to the low turnout.

“We can play up-tempo, but I prefer not to because of our numbers,” Coach Jackson said. “I’m looking to play a little more up-tempo, push the ball up.”

He said the Bearcubs are pretty fundamentally solid.

Defending state cochampion Scobey should be the team to beat in the conference again this season.

“Then, it will probably be North Country, Dodson, Lustre and Nashua,” Coach Jackson said.

The Bearcubs will open their season in Poplar on Saturday, Jan. 2.
