Wolves Prepare For Divisional Tournament


After earning second place at the District 2B volleyball tournament, the Wolf Point Wolves are now gearing up for the divisional tournament.
The Wolves will open up against Shelby at noon on Thursday, Nov. 5, in Shelby. The tournament is being played in both Shelby and Conrad.
Shelby, the third-seed from District 1B, is led by standout hitter Maddison Underdal. Other strong hitters for Shelby are Jori Clary and Cami Blevins. The team’s top setter is Vivi McDermott.
Wolf Point will either play 1B champion Choteau or 1B fifth-seed Cut Bank for its second match either at 2:30 p.m. or 5 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 5.
Other first-round matches include Glasgow taking on Conrad and Fairfield facing Malta. The championship match is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 7. Two teams advance to the state tournament.
The Wolves lost to Glasgow, 16-25, 12-25, 8-25, in the championship match of the District 2B tournament held in Malta on Friday, Oct. 30.
After Glasgow jumped out to a lead in the first set, a kill by Mikaya Smoker-Dewitt cut the margin to 7-3.
J’Elle Garfield and Jewel Olson scored kills for the Wolves, but the Scotties gained a 15-7 advantage. Glasgow held an 18-7 lead, but another kill by Olson helped Wolf Point pull to 18-9.
An ace by Demi Kegley kept Wolf Point close at 21-14, but Glasgow went on to take a 25-16 win.
The Scotties earned a 12-4 lead in the second set until a block by Sierra Hamilton cut the gap to 12-5.
Glasgow then increased its advantage to 19-10. Kills by Olson and Smoker-Dewitt put the margin at 20-12, but the Scotties struck for the final five points.
Wolf Point trailed by only a 7-6 margin in the third set on kills by Smoker-Dewitt, Olson and Hamilton. Glasgow ran off the next eight points until a kill by Hamilton cut the gap to 15-7.
Glasgow accounted for 10 of the last 11 points of the match.
Wolf Point’s Gracie Ferdina finished with 14 assists and six digs. Olson had two blocks. Kegley served one ace.
Leading the Wolves with four kills each were Garfield and Smoker-Dewitt. Ferdina had 22 digs.
Abrianna Nielsen led Glasgow with three aces, 13 kills and three blocks. Rachelle Glaser had 14 assists.
