Ackerman Is Proud To Bring Title Back Home

When Wolf Point High School senior Zander Ackerman crossed the finish line at the state cross-country meet, he knew that he wasn’t only winning the Class B state title for himself but also for his entire community.
“It felt good that I was bringing a championship to the community,” Ackerman said. “It’s good to bring that achievement to our little town.”
He explained that the state title was a goal of his since at least his sophomore year.
“It was a manifest dream as a little kid,” Ackerman said. “And I worked and worked to make it happen.”
Winning the title wasn’t easy because Ackerman needed to move ahead in the final meters. “He had me during the back stretch,” Ackerman said. “At the end, I worked harder.”
He said he was about 50-50 confident heading into the race. He thanks Coach John Wetsit for being a positive influence throughout his running career.
Ackerman said he’s proud to be a student at Wolf Point High School.
“A smaller school helps you get to know all your teachers,” Ackerman said.
He said his favorite class is English and his favorite teacher is Ms. Darby.
“She was a big role in my running. She always cheered me on,” Ackerman said.
Although he’s unsure of a major, Ackerman is looking forward to continue to make Wolf Point proud when he competes in college.
“A lot of schools are up on the table right now,” he added.
He hopes that he makes a difference for the area’s younger individuals.
“I love our small town here,” Ackerman said. “With the championship I have, I hope younger girls can look up to me. Hopefully, I will have a good influence on the kids here.”
