Fate Of Spring Sports And Other Activities May Come This Week

A decision might on whether to cancel high school spring sports, music programs and other activities might come this week.

Gov. Steve Bullock is expected to announce by Friday, April 24, whether restrictions including school closures will continue.

The Helena-headquartered Montana High School Association set Monday, May 4, as a cancellation date for spring sports and other activities if students do not return to classes statewide by that date, MHSA executive director Mark Beckman said earlier this month.

Montana is one of 20 states that has suspended, but not canceled, school sports as of Monday, April 20. All have final dates for decisions during late April and early May. Those states include Colorado, Minnesota, Nevada and North Dakota.

Thirty states, including Alaska, California, Idaho, Oregon, New Mexico, Utah, Washington and Wyoming, have canceled all spring activities.
