With more than 30 athletes out for the sport, the Poplar Indians are looking forward to this track season.

“We lost a bunch from last year,” Poplar Coach Loren Boadle said. “We’re really young. We have a lot of freshmen.”

Senior Kessee Erickson highlights Poplar’s list of returning athletes. Erickson placed third at last year’s divisional meet in the discus to qualify for the Class B state meet.

Walker Burshia, a junior, is expected to have a standout season after taking sixth place at the divisional meet last year.

Adrien Matuck has the ability to be one of the division’s top jumpers after placing in the long jump last season.

Distance running should be a strength for the Indians as Wilder Bear Cub, Raylando Red Eagle and Kacie Colgan should have solid campaigns.

The Poplar track coaching staff expects their athletes to maintain good grades and have excellent school attendance. If they miss school, they can’t practice and won’t be allowed to compete at the next meet.
