An early 80th birthday party was held for Martin Fast by his family at the Lustre EMB Church on Sunday, June 26, with a supper for the community. A program was given by their children: Jerry and Susan Fast, Randy and Jodi Squires, Stanley and Joni Fast, Jeffrey and Stacie Juzak and their families.

Nineteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren provided a program of piano music, singing and a skit of memories of their grandpa around the table. The program began with several piano duets by Joni Fast and her teen-aged daughter Elena of sacred hymns. Then Cienna, Mara and Anna each soloed or played a song with their mom.

Jerry Fast led the crowd in a rousing congregational song of Wonderful Grace of Jesus. Joni and Elena played I Serve a Living Saviour, switching places on the bench and trading parts in a duet arrangement of He Lives. Megan Fast sang May All Who Come Behind us Find us Faithful as a solo. Randy and Jodi Squires and their entire family sang He Leadeth Me, with violin and ukulele accompaniment by two of the siblings and all their children and married children (Ryland and Amanda, Alex and Kylie) singing. Jerry Fast with his children Megan, Nathan and Lauren sang a medley of The Old Country Church, In the Sweet By and By and I’m Redeemed in quartet harmony.

A skit was performed by all the grandchildren and greats, with their oldest grandson, Ryland, playing Martin’s part and their oldest granddaughter, Kylie, playing Karen. It was both humorous and honoring. They portrayed Martin leading family devotions from Joshua 24:15. Food was to be enjoyed, but not left over or wasted. Hymn books became booster chairs, latecomers kindly admonished, organization of chores confirmed before anyone left or was excused. The enjoyable play closed with them singing Happy Birthday.

Jerry Fast led the congregation in I will Sing of the Mercies of the Lord.

The grandchildren and great-grandchildren sang

You are Holy, You are Worthy

in a fast-paced piece and His Mercy is More. Their parents and Martin and Karen joined them for the last song, Great is Thy Faithfulness.

Junior high camp was held this week at Beacon Bible Camp with Dan Marasco directing and Josh Emmer of Warroad, Minn., speaking. Emmer also spoke at one of the churches on Sunday.
