Committee Recommends Home/School Coordinator
The Wolf Point School District was urged to add a home/school coordinator at the high school and junior high school during the Title VI parent committee meeting held on Thursday, May 4.
Committee secretary Imogene Lilley said, as a truancy judge, she deals well with the home/school coordinators and principals at Northside and Southside elementary schools. The high school and junior high schools don’t have a home/school coordinator and experience greater attendance problems.
Teacher Patricia Payne said the lowest attendance is at the high school. She says that she sees a lack of support for students there and that the students need more motivation to come back to school.
School officials aren’t sure if Title VI funds can cover all the costs to add a home/ school coordinator at the junior high and high schools. The district might need to pay for a portion of the position, pending school board approval.
Superintendent Eileen Karge said she will work with school principals to come up with a plan to add a home/ school coordinator.
Committee members voted to fund home/school coordinators at Southside, Northside and junior high/ high school and keep a Native American studies teacher at the junior high/high school.
Earlier during the meeting, which had an attendance of six parents, Lilley asked about the Indian Education for All coordinator position that was approved last year.
Karge said job descriptions are being changed and the plan is to have deans of students added at both Southside and Northside to cover that responsibility among others.
