Figures Released For 2023 Cannabis Sales

The Montana Department of Revenue reported that Roosevelt County had cannabis sales of $297,864 during the first month of 2023.

The amount includes $212,815 for adult-use sales and $85,049 for medical sales.

In comparison, Valley County experienced $143,934 in sales during January. Sheridan County reported $67,844 in sales during the month.

Other eastern Montana counties include Richland at $744,730, Dawson at $525,105 and Custer at $122,208.

Top counties in Montana for sales during January included Yellowstone at $4,223,820, Gallatin at $3,957,673 and Missoula at $3,225,603.

At the start of 2022, Roosevelt County had estimated cannabis sales to adults of $117,303 and medical sales of $214,698 during January. The figures were $137,921 in estimated adult sales and $201,388 in medical sales during February. During March 2022, Roosevelt County experienced $174,625 in estimated cannabis sales to adults during March. In addition, there were $204,364 medical sales for a total of $378,990.

The Department of Revenue assesses the Adult Use and Medical Cannabis Tax on the “Retail Price” of all marijuana or marijuana products. “Retail Price” is defined as the established price paid by the consumer for marijuana or a marijuana product at an adult use dispensary or medical marijuana dispensary. This established price would not include any discounts or reductions.

Roosevelt County residents voted in favor of establishing local option excise taxes for both medical and non-medical marijuana during the primary election on Tuesday, June 7. Adding a 3 percent special local option tax on non-medical marijuana sold in the county passed by a margin of 1,161 to 363. The option tax for medical marijuana was approved by a 941 to 579 margin.
