Red Hawks Drop Game Against Circle Squad

Froid/Lake lost a heart-breaking 45-44 decision against Circle during the District 2C girls’ basketball tournament in Sidney on Saturday, Feb. 18.

The Red Hawks, who led for most of the second half, took a 44-42 advantage when Isabelle Nordwick scored off a pass from Dasani Nesbit with 1:09 remaining.

Circle then missed a couple shot attempts, but a free throw by Kambrie Kountz cut the gap to 44-43 with 17 seconds left. The Wildcats kept possession on the rebound and called time-out with 15 seconds left.

The Wildcats’ Alexis Moline drove in for the winning basket with eight seconds left. Froid/Lake’s last shot attempt missed. Nesbit finished with 25 points to lead the Red Hawks. Also scoring were Baylee Davidson with eight, I. Nordwick with six and Brooklynn Nordwick with five points.

Nesbit grabbed eight rebounds. Mara Salvevold had four steals.

Leading Circle were A. Moline with 24 and Madeline Moline with 10 points. A. Moline had 11 rebounds.

Circle jumped out to a 7-0 lead and held a 13-9 advantage at the end of the first quarter.

The Red Hawks gained a 34-32 half-time advantage. Nesbit scored 19 points in the first half.

After leading 34-32 at the end of the third quarter, the Red Hawks increased the margin to 38-32 on four points by Nesbit to open the fourth period. Circle trailed until A. Moline hit a turnaround shot for a 42-42 deadlock with 1:38 left.
