The Roosevelt County Commissioners held their regular meeting Tuesday, Jan. 28.

Minutes for the Jan. 21 meeting were approved, as were minutes for a special administrative meeting to discuss a new diesel engine for the weed district Jan. 22.

The commissioners approved changes to the county’s credit card purchases policy. Employees will no longer be able to shop on Amazon with county resources. The policy change is intended to redirect county expenditures into the local economy.

“Amazon doesn’t pay any state or local taxes,” said commissioner Gary Macdonald.

His sentiments were echoed by the other commissioners.

“We want to keep our business local,” said commissioner Duane Nygaard.

Presiding officer Gordon Oelkers said the county should make purchases locally whenever possible.

Bainville’s Andy Ullmer was reappointed to the fair board.

An agreement was approved with Interstate Engineering for bridge replacement plans on Road 1013.

Claims were accepted for Jan. 23 in the amount of $107,832.02.

Keelia Brock and Elise Akers were approved for hire at the Roosevelt County Detention Center.
