The Froid FFA program came away with third-place honors from the state floriculture competition held in Miles City on March 21.

“These kids are pretty natural at it so I was surprised but wasn’t surprised,” Froid’s FFA advisor Mary Barcellos said of the showing.

Representing Froid at the competition were Cian Logan, Kaylee Olson, Jaeleigh Davidson and Carolyne Christoffersen.

The only schools to place higher than Froid in the 33-team competition were Miles City in first and Joliet in second.

The event included tests on such topics as plant varieties, diseases, flower identification and equipment use. Students also needed to create a table setting featuring a center piece.

Earlier this school year, Froid earned first place in floriculture at the district level.

Individually, Logan placed 12th, Olson was 14th, Davidson took 23rd and Christoffersen was 26th.

Christofferson is a junior while the other three students are only sophomores.

“I’m pretty hopeful that next year we will even do better,” Barcellos said. “I’m pretty excited about them.”

Another highlight for Froid’s FFA program this year was winning the district title in parliamentary procedures.

The state FFA convention takes place in Bozeman this weekend.
