Froid/Lake Loses Match To Wildcats
Froid/Lake lost to Plentywood in three straight sets in the undefeated semi-final round match at the Eastern C divisional volleyball tournament on Friday, Nov. 5. Plentywood won by a 25-12, 25-22, 25-16, margin.
In the first set, the serving of Liv Wangerin led the Wildcats to a quick 6-1 lead. Kills by Carolyne Christoffersen helped Froid/Lake cut the gap to 7-4.
After Plentywood moved ahead 13-5 on kills by Kate Simonson and Mallory Tommerup, the Red Hawks battled back to 13-8 on kills by Mara Salvevold and Christoffersen.
The net play of Wangerin, a 5-10 senior, led the way for the Wildcats as they posted a 25-12 win in the first set.
Kills by Froid/Lake’s Salvevold and Dasani Nesbit produced a 10-10 deadlock in the second set.
After Plentywood took a 1713 lead, the Red Hawks scored on kills by Christoffersen and Salvevold to close the margin to 18-16.
A kill by Nesbit kept Froid/ Lake close at 22-19, but the Wildcats tallied the next two points. With the score at 2422, Plentywood ended the set on a back-row kill by Wangerin.
The Red Hawks fell behind 8-4 in the third set but fought back on a pair of kills by Christoffersen. A kill by Nesbit put the score at 15-10, but the serving of Wangerin led Plentywood to a 20-10 advantage.
Kills by Nesbit and Christoffersen got the Red Hawks as close as 22-14 before the match ended at 25-16.
Christoffersen led the Red Hawks with 12 kills and five blocks.
Meg Ator accounted for 13 assists. Baylee Davidson had six digs and Nesbit served an ace.
Plentywood’s Wangerin finished with 14 kills, three blocks and seven aces. Ashtyn Curtiss had 24 assists. Tommerup had six digs.
