Petersens Selected As Stampede Grand Marshals
A couple who has constantly displayed the importance of volunteering in the community has been selected as the grand marshals for this year’s Wolf Point Wild Horse Stampede.
“It’s over-the-top shocked,” Jerald Petersen said about him and his wife, Louise, being named grand marshals.
The Wolf Point Wild Horse Stampede will celebrate its 98th year July 8-10.
“I’ve always enjoyed the Stampede,” Jerald said. “It’s a busy weekend for us. We enjoy visiting with people, seeing the people.”
Louise said, “It is also very well organized.”
While other residents and visitors are busy socializing, the Petersens have spent the majority of their years volunteering their time for 4-H during Stampedes. They have worked concessions, parked cars and cleaned up to make the event more enjoyable for everybody.
“We picked up a lot of garbage,” Jerald laughed.
But it’s not only during Stampede that the Petersens can be seen making the community a better place to live.
“We believe in volunteer work,” Louise noted.
She has been a 4-H coach at Frontier School for 22 years. A few years ago, she coached in the soccer program for several seasons.
Louise has been a teacher at Frontier for the last 30 years. For many of their volunteer opportunities, the couple can be spotted working together on a project. “It’s the only way things get done,” Jerald said of volunteering. “I’m lucky to have a number one spouse.”
Jerald’s dedication has included being a Lions Club member for 30 years, the treasurer of his church for 21 years and a Wolf Point Chamber of Commerce director for many years.
Besides the Stampede, his other favorite Chamber related activities include Dinner on the Bridge, Christmas Stroll, basketball tourna- ment tickets and Chamber After Hours.
In addition, Jerald has served as co-chair for Wolf Point’s Ducks Unlimited chapter’s annual banquet for the past 20 years.
“We need to have activities to keep Wolf Point a great place to live,” Jerald said.
Although the humbled Petersens are still shocked and say they don’t quite understand why they were selected as the grand marshals, they are looking forward to July 8-10.
“It’s very well done,” Jerald said of Stampede. “Thank you to all the workers who do volunteer for it.”
