Gianforte Sworn In As Montana Governor

A new era started for Montana on Monday, Jan. 4, as Greg Gianforte was sworn in as the Big Sky state’s new governor.

Gianforte is Montana’s 25th governor and first Republican in the office in 16 years.

The former U.S. representative won 54 percent of the vote in November to be elected the state’s governor.

During his inaugural address on Monday, Gianforte said, “I have been humbled by the outpouring of support I have received from Montanans of all political stripes. Montanans who are united by the idea that we can work together to realize Montana’s full and outstanding potential.”

Gianforte noted the COVID-19 pandemic and its economic fallout have left no Montanan untouched. He saluted health care workers, first responders, parents, educators, truckers and grocery store employees.

“But what the last year has shown us is that Montanans step up when crisis calls. Neighbors help neighbors,” Gianforte said. “I am confident, with vaccines and increased testing, we will get a better handle on our response to COVID-19. I am confident our economy will rebound. I am confident Montanans will get back to work in good-paying jobs. I am confident we will recover. I am confident Montanans will get back to work in good-paying jobs. I am confident we will recover.”

He listed his administration’s core principles as being: economic growth and more good-paying Montana jobs, fiscal responsibility; reform and protecting our way of life.
