After being All-State in two sports and a state champion in both of those sports, Scobey High School senior Kolten Machart is working toward an encore performance this school year.

He is a standout in both football and basketball for the Spartans, earning All-State selection in each sport for the defending state champions. He received All-Conference recognition in both activities as a sophomore.

Machart said football is his favorite sport. “I guess I just like being outside,” he explained.

He is an offensive weapon for the Spartans, but he is also dangerous on the defensive end. So far this season, he has intercepted three passes including one for a touchdown. As a junior, he finished with seven interceptions.

“I’m good at kind of baiting the quarterback,” the senior explained.

Goals for this football season include winning another state title and playing his best.

As far as basketball, Machart was the lone underclassmen who started for last season’s state championship squad.

He thought it was special that Scobey played Lustre Christian in the state championship game. “It was cool having two teams from the same conference,” he said.

One of his favorite memories was having a dunk in the consolation title game against Fort Benton as a sophomore.

Although the Spartans will have a new look this basketball season, Machart is confident that it will be a great season. “We have a lot of good young guys coming up,” he said.

He plans to compete in track this spring. He ran sprints for the Spartans as a freshman.

Hobbies for Machart include fishing and hunting.

In the classroom, his favorite class is history. His favorite teachers are Brock Berryhill and Pat Hardy. “We can talk with them and have good conversations,” Machart said.

After high school, he plans to play football at the collegiate level. He has received three offers so far from colleges. He is thinking about studying to become an electrician.

He has lived in Scobey his entire life and appreciates the community.

“Just how involved everybody is and the support they give us,” Machart said of Scobey.
