Cox Sentenced For Intent To Distribute Drugs In Area

Jauron Laurenz Cox of Redford, Mich., was sentenced during one of the hearings in Roosevelt County District Court on Tuesday, Sept. 29.

Cox was sentenced to serve two years in the Montana State Prison for criminal possession with the intent to distribute meth and received a fouryear deferred sentence for criminal possession of fentanyl. A joint recommendation by attorneys had the sentences to run concurrently, but District Judge Benjamin Fosland ordered that the sentences be run consecutively. Cox was also fined $2,500.

Defense attorney Rev. R.J. Dieken said Cox was riding in a vehicle near Bainville when someone handed him something and told him to throw it out the window.

The charge was distribution because of the large amount of drugs involved.

During his change of plea hearing, Cox admitted that he was a passenger in a vehicle near Bainville on Feb. 10. He admitted that he was given a plastic water bottle that he threw out of the vehicle. That water bottle contained meth and fentanyl.

Judge Fosland noted that Cox was the third individual that he has sentenced from the incident. Calvin Corne and Cody James Corne were previously sentenced.

“Somehow with three people in the car, no one knows where the drugs came from,” Fosland said.

According to a report from the Roosevelt County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy observed through footage from her vehicle’s backseat camera that Cox talked on the phone and told a male that he was going to “drop pin bro and come back later on,” and also that Cox talked about “retrieving it.”

A deputy searched the area and came across a large water bottle a few feet off of the paved edge of the roadway. The deputy saw a large amount of meth inside the bottle. He also saw a baggie that contained blue pills that were similar in size and appearance to fentanyl pills. The suspected meth weighed closed to a pound. A deputy counted out 150 blue pills.
