RedHawks Find Their Rhythm In Conference Victory At Brockton
For much of the first quarter Saturday, Brockton had an answer for every Froid/ Lake score. The RedHawks kept pressing, then turned a close game into a 72-28 victory over the Warriors on Sept. 26.
Aaron Orozco scored five touchdowns for Froid/Lake — three on runs, one on a reception and one on an interception return. Eddie Orozco added three rushing touchdowns, while Carson Aasheim threw two touchdown passes and made six conversion kicks.
Aaron Orozco got the RedHawks started with a two-yard touchdown run. Aasheim’s kick made it 8-0, but Brockton responded when Colter Nygard found Tefton Bear for a 20-yard touchdown. The pair connected again on the conversion to bring the Warriors within a point.
Aasheim then hit Rylan Young for a 47-yard touchdown pass, and another kick gave Froid/Lake a 16-7 lead. Brockton refused to let the RedHawks pull away. Nygard found Bear for another 20yard touchdown, then ran in the conversion to make it 16-14 at the end of the first quarter.
Froid/Medicine Lake broke the game open in the second. Aasheim connected with A. Orozco on a 15-yard touchdown pass before Eddie Orozco scored on runs of 15 and 20 yards. Easton Marottek added a defensive score with a fumble recovery for a touchdown. By halftime, the RedHawks had built a 4614 lead.
A. Orozco kept the oense moving after the break with touchdown runs of four and 40 yards. Brockton continued to battle behind Nygard and Bear, who connected for touchdowns of 10 and 58 yards. Bear caught all four of the Warriors’ touchdown passes, giving Brockton a bright spot even as the Red-Hawks extended their lead to 60-28.
In the fourth quarter, E. Orozco found the end zone again on a 10-yard run. A. Orozco capped his five-touchdown game by intercepting a pass and returning it 70 yards for the final score.
The win gave Froid/Lake plenty to build on: a strong night from its rushing attack, touchdown catches by Young and A. Orozco, and two scores from its defense. Brockton, meanwhile, showed its determination in the opening quarter and kept fighting for points after halftime.
