Scobey Earns Volleyball Victory Over Wolf Point

The Scobey Spartans put together a strong overall effort and downed Wolf Point, 25-16, 25-9, 2515, during non-conference volleyball play on Tuesday, Sept. 15.

In the first set, the Wolves stayed close early as a pair of aces by McKenzie Rodenberg led the Wolves to a 6-4 lead.

With the score deadlocked at 7-7, the Spartans went ahead to stay with eight straight points including a kill and ace by Emery Rouse and two kills by Chloe Handran.

After a kill by Wolf Point’s Butterfly Lindsay closed the margin to 17-11, Scobey built a 21-13 on the net play of Handran and Ava Stentoft. Ainsley Berryhill served an ace for a 23-14 lead en route to a 2516 final score.

In the second set, Rouse scored kills to lead the Spartans to a quick 6-1 advantage. A block and ace by Rouse, a 5-11 sophomore, put the margin at 11-3.

The Spartans kept rolling as two kills by Handran and an ace by Halle Cromwell produced a 14-5 advantage.

After a kill by Rodenberg cut the gap to 16-8, Scobey increased the margin to 20-9 on the net play of Handran and Rouse. Berryhill accounted for four aces during the stretch to end the set at 25-9.

Scobey jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the third set on the serving of Handran and net play of Rouse. The Wolves scored on kills by Ma’Kenzie Jackson and Addy Smith, but a spike by Cromwell and an ace by Rouse put the margin at 12-3.

The Wolves used the solid net play of Lindsay and Smith to battle back to 13-7. Wolf Point’s Maia Kent then served an ace for a 15-9 game.

Scobey responded with the next three points on a kill and ace by Handran along with a kill by Stentoft. After a hit by Mattie Azure was good for a Wolf Point point, Rouse’s net play led the way to a 22-11 advantage. An ace by Chloe Johnson put the score at 23-11.

Wolf Point battled back to 23-14 on a block by Jackson and a serve by Harper Weeks, but the Spartans closed out the match on kills by Rouse and Handran.
