Election Day Fast Approaching In Area
Montana’s general election date is drawing near to decide federal and state representation. Election day is Tuesday, Nov. 3. Mail-in ballots will be sent out on Friday, Oct. 9.
Roosevelt County Election Administrator Tracy Miranda says that satellite voting is tentatively scheduled for Oct. 19-20 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the tribal building. The Fort Peck Tribes still needs to approve of the dates. Individuals can register to vote and also vote at the site.
Voting locations for precincts in Roosevelt County include Bainville School for 2, Froid Community Center for 10, Culbertson School for 12, Brockton School District Office for 15, Poplar Middle School for 16, Faith Free Lutheran Church in Brockton for 17, Poplar Middle School for 18 and Wolf Point’s senior citizens center for 22, 24, 26, 27 and 28.
Federal elections to be decided include for U.S. Senate where Republican Kurt Alme, Libertarian Kyle Austin, Democrat Alani Bankhead and Independent Seth Bodnar are seeking to fill the seat currently held by U.S. Sen. Steve Daines.
Running for the U.S. Rep. position for the second congressional district are Republican incumbent Troy Downing, Independent Michael D. Eisenhauer, Libertarian Patrick McCracken and Democrat Brian J. Miller.
Seeking the public service commissioner office for district 1 are Democrat Angeline Cheek and Republican Jeff Pattison. Supreme Court candidates are Amy Eddy and Dan Wilson.
A large amount of Roosevelt County is located in Montana House District 31 where Democrat Natalie O’Neal is running unopposed after winning a primary election.
The race for the representative for House District 29 features Republican incumbent Valerie Moore and Democrat Tess Fahlgren. The election is on the ballot in Roosevelt County for precincts 2, 10, 12, 17 and 28.
Precincts 2 and 12 are each split as some voters have the House District 29 race on their ballots and others have the House District 30 race between Republican incumbent Morgan Thiel and Democrat Jason Boeshore.
There are no county-wide positions up for election in Roosevelt County this year. Due to candidates running unopposed, the Roosevelt County commissioners canceled certain uncontested local government elections during a meeting in August. Declared elected by acclamation were Gordon Oelkers for commissioner, Tracy Miranda for clerk and recorder, Thomas Bleicher for county attorney, Marvin Youpee for justice of the peace in Post No. 1, Tara Nickoloff for justice of the peace in Post No. 2, Jason Baker for sheriff and Betty Romo for treasurer.
