Police’s Efforts Paying Off In Wolf Point

Since Wolf Point Police Chief Anthony Cambridge announced that the department was stressing that any public intoxication will not be tolerated in late July, the behavior on the community’s streets have appeared to be more appealing.

“I feel like it has,” Cambridge said of a decrease of public intoxication. “I’ve had a number of community members reached out to me who have noticed a big difference.”

One location that has been emphasized is near the Albertsons store.

“For the most part, when people see us, they start moving before we approach them at this point,” Cambridge said.

When patrol stops violators, it might be just one vehicle or three patrol vehicles. It just depend on how many officers are on duty and what’s happening at that moment.

“Overall, it’s been successful,” Cambridge said. “We’re going to keep going. We’re not giving up.”

The chief hopes the community keeps supporting the department’s efforts.

“We’ve heard that nothing can be done with a lot of issues. I think the police department is showing the city that things can be done,” Cambridge said. “If we’re not moving forward, we’re moving backwards.”

The police force now features five officers including the chief along with the animal control officer. The department is still short of one officer, but the number is better than in prior years.

Law enforcement will be stressing another ordinance in the upcoming months. All non-movable vehicles that can’t be operated will be towed after five days.

“We’re not doing anything that’s not in the Wolf Point city ordinance,” Cambridge said. “But we are going to enforce laws the way they are written.”
