Spartans Defeat Lady Wolves
The Scobey Spartans edged Wolf Point in non-conference volleyball action on Thursday, Sept. 3, by a final margin of 25-13, 25-16, 25-23.
The hometown Spartans were able to gain the upper-hand at the start as the hitting of Chloe Handran and serving of Ava Stentoft led the way to an 8-5 lead in the first set.
Scobey increased its lead to 14-6 on kills by Emery Rouse and the ace serving of Paige McGillis. A block by Rouse, a 5-11 sophomore, helped the Spartans gain a 19-6 advantage.
Wolf Point battled back to 19-8 on a hit by Harper Weeks and a kill by Addy Smith. Aces by Cali Gorder closed the margin to 19-12.
After Scobey scored a point, Smith connected on two kills to pull the Wolves to 20-14.
Kills by Rouse and Handran led the Spartans down the stretch in the 2516 victory.
Scobey jumped out to a 7-0 advantage in the second set on the net play of Handran and serving of Rouse.
After kills by Handran and Halle Cromwell put the margin at 12-5, the hard hitting of Rouse increased the gap to 15-7, Four net winners by Handran and a tip by Stentoft put the Spartans ahead 21-7.
An ace by Smith and two kills by Ma’Kenzie Jackson led the Wolves during a strong streak to put the margin to 21-12.
A tip by Anna Matejovsky cut the margin to 2213, but a block by Cromwell led Scobey to a 25-13
win. In the third set, the Wolves jumped out to a 5-1 advantage.
After Scobey moved ahead 12-9 on the net play of Cromwell and a backrow kill by Handran.
Down by a 16-12 margin, the Wolves responded with a kill by Jackson and an ace by Mckinlee Paulson. Net plays by Butterfly Lindsay pulled the Wolves to 19-18.
Scobey earned a 22-21 lead on blocks by Cromwell and Ainsley Berryhill, but Wolf Point fought back for a 23-23 deadlock.
The Spartans scored the last two points of the match including one on a block by Cromwell.
In JV action, Wolf Point won by a 25-23, 25-21, 10-15, 15-13, margin.
