New Music Teacher Starts In Wolf Point

Nicole Euken is excited for the opportunity to serve as the music instructor in the Wolf Point School District.

“Everything has been going really well,” Euken said about the first weeks of the school year.

She has been the music teacher in Scobey for the past three years. She is currently working on earning her degree from Montana State University in Billings.

Euken has a great love for music since she has been performing for the past 15 years in church and theater bands. She has also been one of the leaders for the Prairie Symphonette. The community musical group consists of musicians from throughout northeastern Montana including Scobey, Plentywood and Bainville. Euken has been a conductor and has played flute for the group.

Euken became interested in the Wolf Point position when guidance counselor Erin Loendorf, a former classmate, reached out to her about the position, knowing that Euken was leaving Scobey.

“It’s been a really good fit,” Euken said.

She has been impressed with the student leadership of Wolf Point’s musical students. She has 19 high school choir members, 18 high school band members and 19 junior high band members.

“I’m really excited to grow the program,” Euken said. “We have a lot of kids who love music.”

Goals include building up the swing choir and having large turnouts for music festivals.

She is looking forward to working with Northside Elementary School’s beginning band in order to develop them into quality future musicians.

Euken is planning winter and spring concerts to entertain area residents. The honor festival in Glasgow during January is another item on her schedule. “It’s always a good learning opportunity,” she said.
