DPHHS Begins Health Survey In State

The Department of Public Health and Human Services is encouraging residents to participate in the Montana Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System, while also providing guidance on distinguishing legitimate state health surveys from telephone scams.

The BRFSS is the nation’s largest continuously conducted health survey system, gathering vital data on health conditions, behaviors, preventive care, and health care access. This invaluable information directly shapes public health programs, funding decisions, and community initiatives across the state.

Each year, randomly selected adults throughout Montana are invited to take part. The survey is conducted on behalf of DPHHS by the University of Wyoming Survey and Analysis Center. Selected residents may receive calls from 307-766-XXXX numbers, with “University of Wyoming” displayed on their caller ID.

Amid ongoing telephone scams targeting the public, DPHHS is emphasizing safety and transparency. Participation is entirely voluntary, and all responses are kept confidential and anonymous.

Know the Difference: Legitimate Survey vs. Scam A legitimate Montana BRFSS call will:

•Originate from a 307766-XXXX phone number.

•Show “University of Wyoming” on the caller ID.

•Focus strictly on health, health care access, and health-related behaviors.

A legitimate BRFSS survey interviewer will never ask for:

•Social Security numbers •Dates of birth

•Medicare numbers

•Bank account information •Credit card information •Payment of any kind Residents should remain cautious of callers claiming to represent government agencies who request sensitive financial or personal account information.
