TEB Hires Corrections, Police Officers

The Fort Peck Tribal Executive Board held its regular full board meeting Monday, July 27.

The Fort Peck Tribes Head Start Program was approved to submit a carryover request to the offi ce of Head Start in the amount $461,163.33.

The Language and Cultural Department was approved to accept a bid from Eagleman Creations to install a six-foot fence around the L& C building in the amount $10,000.

The tribal operation offi cer was approved to disburse payment to Sonosky & Chambers for legal services rendered for the month of May, totaling $53,486.65.

The board voted to approve approximately 60 tribally enrolled veterans for a one-time stipend of $500. Council Member Jestin Dupree told this newspaper that stipends will be open to all Fort Peck tribal members who served in the armed forces. The enrollment period is still being discussed, but Dupree said it should last for at least the next 30 days. Veterans can add their names to a list of applicants administered by Tribal Veterans Services Program head Medicine Bear Lone Warrior and staff. The board approved a contract with BP Construction in the amount of $27,950.00 for the cleanup and remediation of the Jerry DeCoteau and Susie Perry home sites.

Les Bighorn was honored with a star quilt and $500 for 25 years of services to the Fort Peck Tribes.

Full clinical privileges were granted to Lauren Wilson, MD to provide pediatric healthcare services within the Fort Peck Tribal Health Program for the period of July 27, 2026, through July 27, 2028, and authorizes the chairman/ vice-chairman to sign all necessary documents.

John Cole, III, MD, was approved to provide pediatric healthcare services within the Fort Peck Tribal Health Program for the period of July 27, 2026 through July 27, 2028.

Full clinical privileges were granted to Angela Quilty, FNP-C, to provide family healthcare services within the Fort Peck Tribal Health Program for the period of July 27, 2026 through July 27, 2028.

Linda Jones, FNP-C, was approved to provide family healthcare services within the Fort Peck Tribal Health Program for the period of July 27, 2026 through July 27, 2028, Jeffery Meckfessel, DDS, was approved to provide dental services within the Fort Peck Tribal Health Program for the period of July 27, 2026 through July 27, 2028.

The board voted to grant full clinical privileges to Jon Kolstad, OD, to provide optometry services within the Fort Peck Tribal Health Program for the period of July 27, 2026 through July 27, 2028.

A contract with Wesley Medical Staffing Inc. was approved to provide competent and qualified supplemental staffing to the Tribal Health Department.

The Tribal Epidemiology Center was approved to collaborate with all organizations that serve members of the tribes that may not be under the complete or partial jurisdiction of the tribal governments and to request health data, information and related literature.

The submission of a formal request to the DOJ Office for Victims of Crimes was approved for a no cost extension for a 12 month period grant award for the remaining balance $233.855.38, enabling the Red Bird Woman Center to complete all remaining deliverables and fulfill the goals and objectives of the award.

The Department of Corrections was approved to hire Tristian Burshia, Wayne Dupree, Nisa Genia and Alixee Burshman as corrections officers, pending background checks.

The Department of Law and Justice was approved to hire Angela Cole and Rusti Parker as police offi cers with favorable background checks pending.

A grant submission was approved for the NATHPO 2026 Protecting Native Places grant program for $40,000 to assist the THPO with the cost of non-capitalized equipment, office supplies and training fees The board approved the submission of a grant application to the Bureau of Indian Affairs Office of Indian Economic Development for a Tribal Tourism Grant in an amount between $200,000 and $300,000 with no match required to support tourism enhancements for the 150th Fort Peck Reservation Anniversary.
