School Board Hires Music Teacher, Athletic Director
A new music teacher and athletic director were hired during the Wolf Point School Board meeting held on Monday, July 27.
Nicole Euken will serve as the new junior high/ high school teacher in Wolf Point. Euken has taught in Scobey for the last three years.
Euken will be the fourth music teacher in Wolf Point during the last four years.
“We had some options that came up,” Wolf Point Superintendent of Schools Dr. David Perkins said of the position.
The school board unanimously voted to hire Euken.
Perkins said Euken will also teach music to fifth-grade students at Northside Elementary School.
Cody Larson was hired as Wolf Point’s new athletic director. Larson will also teach physical education part-time at the high school.
Perkins explained to the school board that it wasn’t legal for the school district in the past to grant tenure for the athletic director position. Only teachers can have tenure.
Perkins said having Larson being part-time athletic director and parttime teacher will not have an impact on Larson’s pay.
“He’s fine with it,” Perkins said. “He actually wants to keep teaching.”
Michael Turcotte was the lone trustee voting against the motion to hire Larson.
Also hired during the meeting were long-time Poplar teacher Jeanine Granada as a family and consumer science teacher and Chans Standing as an assistant cook.
Retirements/resignations were accepted from junior high special education teacher and junior high band teacher Bridget Drummond and ISS supervisor Wesley Headdress.
Trustees approved Perkins’ recommendation to combine the nutrition director and head cook positions to be the head cook.
Trustees approved the new curriculum including $36,080.86 for HMH Education’s science dimensions at Southside, $21,224 for McGraw Hill’s impact social studies at Southside, $7,429 for Mc-Graw Hill’s impact social studies at Northside and $12,433 for McGraw Hill’s junior high world history.
