Summer Reading Program Hosts Movie Day
The Culbertson Public Library’s summer reading program continued its “Unearth a Story” theme with a movie day at the Culbertson old armory, giving local children an afternoon of entertainment and learning.
The library hosted a themed activity each Thursday throughout the summer, according to local librarian Mary Drake. “We have been doing an activity each Thursday as part of the summer reading program,” Drake said. “We read Concrete Jungle, and then our activity that went with that was painting the sidewalks with chalk paint.”
This year’s program focuses on paleontology and adventure- themed books, with activities designed to complement the weekly readings.
For the movie day, the old armory was transformed into a theater with a projector and sound system. Children were treated to popcorn, water and dinosaur-shaped fruit snacks to match the program’s prehistoric theme.
The summer reading program is made possible through community support. The Culbertson Area Community Foundation donated $500, while the Culbertson Women’s Club contributed $796 raised during its annual pie sale.
Nearly 20 children attended the movie event. The summer reading program will continue throughout the season with additional themed activities planned for local youth.
