School Board Approves Emergency Repairs
The Wolf Point School Board unanimously passed a resolution declaring an emergency regarding repairs of the boiler’s piping at the high school and junior high school during a meeting on Monday, July 13.
“It’s something that has to be done,” Wolf Point Superintendent of Schools Dr. David Perkins said of the repairs.
Shane Reed, facilities director, told this newspaper, “If we don’t do it, we will probably have a failure in the winter.”
Reed explained that the “miles and miles” of piping in the school run water from the boiler to air handlers in order to heat the building. Expansion joints expand when the pipes are heated. At least six of the 18-20 expansion joints are prematurely rotting. According to the school district’s timetable, the earliest date that a notice for bids could first be published is Sept. 10. The earliest date for a lawful bid opening and board to award the project is Sept. 22. The earliest practical commencement of construction is Sept. 29. Estimated completion date is Nov. 10.
Also during the meeting, trustees approved a professional services agreement with McKinstry, LLC regarding the heating system project. The agreement includes McKinstry recruiting interest professionals to complete the project.
