Talent Show Offered During Stampede Week

A tradition was back to the community during Wolf Point’s Wild Horse Stampede time this summer.

After the Colgate Country Showdown attracted crowds for years, such a talent show hasn’t been offered during the last few years. Three local women agreed it was time to have a similar type of talent show again during Stampede.

Clyta Dillon, Helen Welte and Cassandra Solberg decided to approach the Wolf Point Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture and Stampede committee for their thoughts of offering such a display of local talent. Dillon said each group gave their blessings.

The result is that the Wolf Point Stampede Talent Contest was held 7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 7, at the Wolf Point Elks Event Center. It was originally scheduled to be held at Bill Henry legion baseball field, but rain drove it inside.

Dillon said the business community has been very supportive about providing financial assistance for cash prizes.

“We just want to entertain our community during Stampede week,” Dillon explained.

The entertainment provided included singers, dancers, comedians, magicians and dramatic performances.

“We will have over $2,000 in cash prizes,” Dillon said.

Organizers have been busy contacting school music directors and others to urge people to entry the contest. They are excited because there’s a lot of talent in this area.

The Yellowjacket baseball team provided concessions including hamburgers, hot dogs and soft drinks.
