WPCO Offers Powwow This Weekend

The powwow season will start this weekend with the Wolf Point Community Organization’s celebration in Wolf Point on June 5-7.

WPCO’s powwow has been held during Stampede weekend in the past. The event lasted one day in 2024 and two days in 2025.

Organizer Wayne Two Bulls said, “This year, we’re going to a full powwow.”

Two Bulls explains that the event was moved to the first weekend of June because there have been a low number of drummers and dancers due to conflicts with other powwows.

Activities begin with a community feed at 5 p.m. on Thursday, June 4, at Wolf Point’s powwow grounds. After the community feed, the Fort Peck Diabetes Program will hold a Kahomani dance.

Grand entry will start at 7 p.m. on Friday, 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Saturday and 1 p.m. on Sunday. Jason Gray Hawk will serve as arena director.

Dance categories are men, women, teen, junior, golden age and tiny tots.

Royalty will include Skye Fast Horse as princess, Angel Schindler as junior princess, Rylie Fast Horse as junior princess attendant, Paislee Gourneau as mini princess, Mateo Escarcega as mini brave, Alexander Gourneau as mini brave attendant and MaLayna Escarcega as traveling princess.

Head man dancer is Lance FourStar. Head woman dancer is Joetta AllRunner FourStar.

Drum contest prizes will include $2,000 for first, $1,500 for second, $1,000 for third and $500 for fourth.

The Spotted Bull Recovery Resource Center will have a walk/run on Thursday, June 4, starting at the Wolf Point powwow grounds. Registration begins at 9 a.m., with the walk starting at 9:30 a.m.
