Kolstad Selected Optometrist Of Year

Wolf Point native Dr. Jon Kolstad was recently honored for his contributions to his profession when he received the Montana Optometric Association’s Optometrist of the Year award.

The honor was based on Kolstad’s outstanding achievement, leadership and dedication to his profession and community. There are 180 practicing optometrists in Montana.

Kolstad drives more than 350 miles weekly as he runs three separate fully staffed practices including offices in Wolf Point, Glasgow and Scobey.

He has testified multiple times in front of Montana’s legislators regarding issues that impact northeastern Montana patients.

Kolstad is one of only four optometrists in the state who is currently trained and licensed to do laser surgery. He has been performing secondary cataract surgery and multiple glaucoma laser surgeries during the last year.

Jon Vincent, past Montana Optometric Association president, said to Kolstad, “You are a true example of what it means to be completely dedicated to your patients and your community. No one is willing to go out of their way to learn new techniques, or make up new ones. No one is willing to constantly improve their skills and knowledge simply for the good of their people. You are right, there are a lot of amazing docs in this state, but there is only one Jon Kolstad and you are truly the best of the best.”

Kolstad has more than 31 years of diverse experience in optometry. He specializes in treating various eye conditions such as age-related macular degeneration, retinal vein occlusion, floaters and flashes. Procedures include anti-VEGF treatment, retinal imaging, optical coherence tomography and YAG laser capsulotomy.
