Trustees Approve Purchase For Housing
The Wolf Point School District is purchasing at least one house with the goal of providing staff housing. Trustees approved paying $175,000 for a house located at 500 Dawson Street during their meeting last week.
Superintendent of Schools Dr. David Perkins is the amount is the same as what the present owners paid in 2017.
“They just want to get their money out of it,” Perkins said. “They have provided housing for some of our staff.”
Perkins said repairs needed include some electrical and a few touch-ups.
The school district will charge teachers rent to sustain the building.
Trustee Keith Higgins made the motion to purchase the property. The motion was seconded by trustee Liara Braaten and unanimously approved.
Trustees also have interest in a property located at 409 Fifth Avenue South, which is also across the street from Southside Elementary School.
The house was described as being partially remodeled. There are two bedrooms upstairs. A room in the basement could be split into two rooms. “For the right price, it’s a good option,” Higgins said.
A realtor estimates the cost for the house will be between $105,000 and $125,000 depending if some projects are completed.
Trustees gave Perkins permission to negotiate a price. The board would then have to give final approval once an exact amount is determined.
Also during the meeting on Monday, May 11, trustees approved $19,000 for a paving improvement project at the Southside Elementary School’s parking lot.
Trustees approved a $111,779 project to remove and replace three double french doors in the high school’s west gym entrance.
A one-year lawn and grounds maintenance service contract with Erickson Irrigation was approved. Cost is $22,835.
