Area To Recognize Older Americans Month

Roosevelt County Aging Services has released its line-up of activities and educational events in celebration of Older Americans Month, o_ering a variety of programs throughout May aimed primarily at residents age 60 and older, though all community members are welcome to attend.

The Wolf Point Senior Center, located at 124 Custer St., will host health screenings, educational presentations and wellness activities designed to promote healthy living, safety awareness and community engagement.

The month’s events begin Friday, April 24, from 10 a.m. to noon with a flower planting activity led by the Roosevelt County Health Department and Strengthening Families program.

A series of “Lunch & Learn” sessions will follow in May. On Tuesday, May 5, Mike Leinen of Independence Bank will present information on scams and fraud from 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. The topic of fraud prevention continues Tuesday, May 19, at noon, when Greg Hunter of Nemont leads a discussion on recognizing and avoiding scams.

Safety is also a focus this month. Camarillo Burshia, training ocer with the Wolf Point Volunteer Fire Department, will deliver a safety presentation on Tuesday, May 12, at noon.

Health and wellness programming includes free blood pressure checks offered by the Roosevelt County Health Department on Thursday, May 14, from noon to 2 p.m. In addition, Keri Sansaver will lead a chair yoga session on Wednesday, May 20, at 10 a.m., providing a low-impact exercise option.

Community members interested in local conservation e_orts can attend a presentation by Roxann Smith of Fort Peck Community College on Friday, May 15, at 11 a.m., focusing on bu_alo restoration projects.

Throughout the month, the center will also o_er video- led exercise classes every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 10 a.m. Financial handouts will be available courtesy of Wolf Point Federal Credit Union, and a swag table has been donated by Action for Eastern Montana.
